Job Search Q&A: Q- I desperately need a job. Should I post my resume on LinkedIn for all to see? If I do, will it help my chances of getting a job? A- I do not recommend posting your resume on LinkedIn. Doing so makes it easy for people to get your personal information (phone number, email and in some cases, address- if you have it listed on your resume). They can use that info for less than professional reasons. Instead, I recommend that you optimize your profile as when it is done right, it can attract opportunities to you. You can send your resume to a recruiter/hiring managers or connections, while keeping your personal info confidential. Posting your resume on LinkedIn does not increase your chances of getting an interview or a job and in fact, may actually work against you. When a company knows you are desperate for a job, they may be inclined to take advantage and make a lesser offer. Optimize your profile and resume. Craft a kick ass cover letter. But please don't make it public here on LI.
